ARE CUSTOM ORDERS EXPENSIVE?

The price depends on you. Matching only one color is less expensive thanrequesting six paint colors. The price of choosing one color is $50 and each additional color is $25. Creating a "Color Board" as part of a custom order costs $300. All the colors contained in a material or pattern will be matched with paint colors.

CAN GOOD EYE FOR COLOR MATCH COLORS FROM A PHOTOGRAPH?

Photographs, computer screens and printers can never duplicate actual colors of fabrics or paints. We tested one of our patterns with an on-line design service, attaching a photograph of the bedding to an email. The web site promised four matching paint colors for $29.99. The paints recommended bore little resemblance to the colors in the actual fabrics.

WILL YOU RECOMMEND ONE OF THE COLORS?

Your choice of patterns and colors in your linens reflects your nature—who you are. They are the focal point of your space, supported by the wall hues, shades, values. There are no right or wrong choices. But…don't ignore any hue. Give each one a chance, an audition. Always test paint colors on actual walls as colors do not exist in a vacuum. Before selecting a color, let them "hang" for a few days but don't ignore them. Study the colors under allconditions. Consider their appearance during daytime—morning and afternoon. Scrutinize the colors carefully--from every angle, from a few feet away, from across the room, under artificial lighting, under natural lighting. You'll gravitate to one or two colors…and you'll own them!

WHERE CAN PAINT BE PURCHASED?

Good Eye for Color compares paint samples from six different paint manufacturers. All are available nation-wide, including some with on-line options. No one paint company has all the perfect colors, all the perfect matches, all the time. Only one paint brand is used for some collections or custom orders but usually more than one brand is necessary to find the perfect colors.

  • Benjamin Moore produces three separate collections—Affinity, Classic Colors and Color Preview—containing a total of 3238 colors. These paints are sold inhardware stores, including Ace Hardware and True Value Hardware and in specialty paint stores.

  • ColorLife, part of the Comex Group, offers 1400 colors. This brand issold under four different names--Color Wheel, Frazee, Kwal and Parker—available from these individual stores.

  • Dunn-Edwards, also marketed asCalifornia paint, offers more than 1693 hues from their Perfect Palette collection. Dunn-Edwards products are marketed in the southwest while California paints are available nation-wide. These paints are sold in company-owned stores.

  • Farrow & Ball is premium English paint available in 132 color and sold on-line and at specialty paint stores in selected locations in the US. Farrow & Ball colors are not specified often due to limited in-store purchasing possibilities. When selected, however, the Farrow & Ball color is an astonishing match.

  • Glidden Professional sell all their paints—2016 color--in company-ownedGlidden Professional Paint Centers. Good Eye for Color selects paint colors from this line. Glidden, not Glidden Professional, is sold at The Home Depot and Walmart. While the colors are the same, the identifying nomenclature is different.

  • PPG Pittsburgh paints—Voice of Color—with over 1800 colors are sold at specialty paint stores across the country.

  • Sherwin-Williams products, which are also sold under the Duron label, sell over 1400 beautiful paint colors in company-owned stores.
  • ARE SMALLER PAINT CANS AVAILABLE FOR TESTING?

All of the paint companies recommended by Good Eye for Color sell quart-size containers of paint, not just the big gallon cans. Many offer, either in the store or on-line, smaller sample sizes ranging from two-ounce jars to pint-sized containers.

CAN ONE PAINT COMPANY DUPLICATE ANOTHER BRAND'S PAINT COLOR?

No, not perfectly. Don't expect a flawless match from a competitor, despite their assurances.Matching really depends on the individual, not the store. A few folksare very good at color matching, even going beyond eye-balling a color using a color-matching tool. But the exact color? Can't be done. Always compare dry paint with dry paint. Paint lightens as it drys. If you are not very picky, you'll probably be satisfied with the paint color. If you are particular, wanting the perfect color, the perfect match (after all, you visited our site!), use the brand specified.Note to customers without access to a variety of paint stores:We recommend the "Color Board Plus." Without the actual paint chips available from a paint store, matching paint colors will be very difficult. The colors shown on computer screens or printer copies are not accurate.
